Bihar Verdict: Implications (18 November 2015)

After five stages of voting and results, the Bihar election is now over. Grand alliance has got a pure mandate. Bihar results have led us to think about several phenomena of Bihar. Bihar is the third largest populated state with the maximum density. If we categorize the population of Bihar on the basis of caste, we find it is OBC mandated state. Here the population share of the general category is 16%, OBC 51%, Dalits 16% and Muslim 6%.

literacy rate of Bihar is 63 % which is less than the national average (i.e., 75%). The election started with the agenda of development however, with the time it came on the religion and finished at the caste. Regarding the Polls, religion became an agenda when AIMIM decided to contest. Dadari was another issue that played a vital role in initial poll polarization. in the end, caste played as the result deciding factor. Caste issue initiated with the statement of Mohan Bhagwat who is the sarsanghchalak of RSS. Although he said only to introspect the reservation yet it was sufficient for RJD supremo Lalu Yadav to polarize OBC and SC mandated Bihar. Local and Outer issues also played a significant role in voting. Now the result is declared Lalu Yadav RJD became the largest party with 80 seats Nitish got 71 and BJP with its allies succeeded to get only 66 seats. The most astonishing fact of the result was the number of seats of Lalu. The old Yadav Muslim formula of Lalu again succeeded. Lalu Yadav has proved that he is the biggest player in Bihar politics. Verdict always provides a chance for introspection. In this election, none of the agenda worked for BJP. NDA Alliance was totally failed to attract the voters. BJP expected that Paswan, Kushvaha, and Majhi will get the votes for BJP but they could neither fetch the votes for themselves nor for the BJP. The election comes and ends but results put question not only for the losers but also for the winners. winners have now a challenge to bear the desires of citizens and losers have the opportunity to introspect themselves. Hopefully, Nitish will work as "Sushashan Babu" and there would not be Jungalraj 2.
